A conceptual fine art photograph of a mermaid sitting in front of a shipwreck looking regretful

Siren's Sorrow

“Happiness is an allegory, unhappiness a story.”
― Leo Tolstoy

The story I wanted to tell here is of a siren who sang a ship to ground and, for whatever reason, forever lamented her actions. On a deeper level the image is about shame and regret and how even superheroes and fairytale characters make mistakes, because no good story comes without challenges and redemption.

'Siren's Sorrow' was a finalist in the Contemporary Art Awards 2015 and won first prize in the Royal Queensland Show 2016.
